Workplace Design Trends 2026: 10 Trends Shaping Flexible Offices

Gone are the days when a polished fit-out and rows of furnished desks were enough to make a flexible workspace competitive. Tenants now move between focused work, calls, collaboration, hybrid meetings and informal conversations throughout the day, and the layout has to support all of them without one activity getting in the way of another.

One of the clearest shifts is towards more shared, collaborative space. In CBRE’s workplace and occupancy research covering 66 companies, collaborative “we” space increased from 14% of office space in 2021 to 20% in 2023, while private “me” space fell from 56% to 45%. That doesn't mean private space is disappearing; it means offices are being divided more deliberately between collaboration, concentration, and the different ways people now use the workplace.

For flexible workspace operators, this creates a very practical design challenge. Adding more lounge seating is not enough if tenants cannot find somewhere quiet for a call. A beautiful private office loses value if conversations carry through the walls. And a meeting room built for hybrid work still falls short if remote participants cannot hear everyone clearly.
