The rich and unique story of the Normandy building certainly adds to the enchanting character of the structure. Constructed in the early-mid 1800s, according to legend, the Normandy was originally a brothel and saloon before it was purchased by Mike Garvey and "rebranded" as Garvey’s Hotel in 1871. In 1884 Mr. Garvey sold his hotel to T.H. Thierman, 'the whiskey man', who restored and then gave the building its present name of the Normandy Hotel. In the early ’80s, the Normandy was again sold and continued to operate as a fine dining establishment. Its final transformation came about in 1989 and the Normandy was reborn as an office complex. Many locals may know this building as Renaissance, named by the previous owner for nearly 30 years. Most recently purchased by a local Main Street enthusiast, the decision was made to take the Normandy back to its roots, and the name couldn’t be more fitting.
