Lime Street takes its name as the location from which lime burners sold lime for use in construction projects in the 19th century. Lime Street itself lies adjacent to Leadenhall Market, one of the oldest markets in London, dating from the 14th century. Where Lime Street meets Leadenhall Street was also the location of Ebenezer Scrooge’s House in ‘A Christmas Carol’; Dicken’s famous novel.
