One Island East (Chinese: 港島東中心; Cantonese Yale: Góngdóu Dūng Jūngsām), is a skyscraper in Taikoo Place, Quarry Bay, Hong Kong Island, Hong Kong. An Address For Success Strategically located in Hong Kong’s second largest business district at the Eastern end of Hong Kong, One Island East stands majestically as the 6th tallest building in the city. It is a prime business address that houses over 300 multinational businesses within its large complex. Overview The skyscraper is a commercial office building, rising 298.35 m (979 ft) and has 69 storeys 4 plus two levels of basement.4 There is a sky lobby on the 37th and 38th floors.4 In addition, there are 28 high-speed passenger lifts, six high-speed shuttle lifts between Main (G - 1/F) and Sky (37 - 38/F) lobbies, one passenger lift between the main lobby and basement carpark and two service lifts.4

One Island East was built under the first use of the Land (Compulsory Sale for Redevelopment) Ordinance (Cap 545), exercised by Swire in 2000.5 Part of the site was previously occupied by Melbourne Industrial Building (23-floor industrial building demolished 2005) and Aik San Factory Building (22-floor industrial building demolished 2005)6 which were acquired by the developer in 2002 and 2001 respectively.7 The basic form of the building is a square plan with rounded corners and a central core. The two corners facing north and south open up at the top floors to address the Harbor view. At the base, the two corners facing east and west open up to address the open space. The edges of the four façades sail beyond, creating a floating effect and giving lightness to the building. Architectural fins are introduced on the façade in a staggered pattern to add texture and scale.

Without a podium structure, the tower sits freely in front of a large landscaped open space to the east. The canopy at the porte cohere is specially designed as a piece of sculpture. The landscaped area beyond is designed to have platforms at different levels incorporating water features. This urban landscape gives an appropriate scale as a forecourt to the building and provides a leisure space for both the enjoyment of office workers and for the neighborhood.

The upper main lobby is connected to the rest of the office complex at TaiKoo Place via a bridge at the northwest corner. Through a well-established system of link bridges at the existing podium level, pedestrians can gain convenient access to the MTR Quarry Bay Station. The One Island East building not only energizes the whole of TaiKoo Place, it also plays a leading role in transforming the neighborhood into a better environment.
